Australian Skilled Occupations List (SOL)
The Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) dictionary compile
a list of occupations which make up the skilled occupations list (SOL),
selected areas skill shortage list (SSASSL) and employer
nomination scheme occupation list (ENSOL).
These form the list of occupations which are acceptable for permanent Australian immigration
under the General Skilled Immigration and
Employer Nomination Scheme categories.
Major Occupational Groups Occupations in the SOL are divided into the four major occupational groups
i.e.
- Managers and Administrators,
- Professionals,
- Associate Professionals, and
- Tradespersons and Related Workers
Attributes of OccupationsFor each occupation, the occupations list will show:
- the occupation name,
- the internal ASCO code,
- the relevant skills/qualifications assessing authority,
- if it is included in the skilled occupations list,
- if it is included in the SSASSL for the Sydney region,
- the number of points allocated in the points test for General Skilled Migration, and
- if it is included in the ENSOL
Australian Skilled Visa To apply for an Australian skilled visa under General Skilled Migration, you
must nominate an occupation in the skilled occupations list.
Offshore visa applications (outside Australia) must be accompanied by evidence
of having obtained the required assessment from the relevant assessing
authority for the nominated occupation.
Onshore visa applications must be accompanied by a declaration that you have applied for
skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority must be made.
Visa applications under the Skilled - Australian Sponsored category must
nominate an occupation on the SSASSL and have a sponsor living in Sydney, Gosford,
Newcastle or Wollongong.
Employer Nomination Scheme For Australian visa applications under the Employer Nomination Scheme,
applicants must have been nominated by an Australian employer for
an occupation in the ENSOL.
Skills and qualifications for the position can be demonstrated either
through:
- having worked in Australia in the occupation for two years,
- obtaining the required skill/qualifications assessments,
- being nominated for a position attracting a base salary over A$151,500,
- holding a license or registration to work in Australia for the occupation, or
- being nominated for a senior academic or scientific research position by an Australian university or the CSIRO
